Article New to BNI?
I decided to join BNI Horizon, Congresbury as I knew from many business colleagues that BNI was the most effective business networking organisation around.
I have only been a member of my chapter for four months and I have already received many referrals, easily covering the joining fee and the years membership and spreading our name and reputation far more effectively than any traditional modes of advertising.
When I joined the group I was nervous and frankly terrified of standing up and talking about me and my business. I had no need to feel like this as everyone one made me feel very welcome and ‘one of the team’ and I feel like I have always been a member and known all the other members far longer that I have.
I was also concerned about finding referrals for my fellow members, as they had given me so much I really want to reciprocate. Having your BNI business card file with you all the time really helps with that, as when anyone mentions needing a reliable electrician or a good accountant for example, I can give them a card, take their contact details and pass it at my next meeting. It really is a great feeling when a referral you have passed turns to a really super contract for another member.
Another worry I had was ‘Can I commit to this every week?’ Having an early morning breakfast meeting is the best time as your usual business day is not affected, and the ‘commitment’ factor doesn’t even cross my mind now.
I would say that joining BNI was the best business move I have made for some time, plus I have made some great business contacts and some good friends.
